Though there's no doubt that Arctic Drift is Cussler's 20th Dirk Pitt yarn, there seems to be some question about Pitt #1. According to Cussler's Web site, "Even though Pacific Vortex was published later in 1983, it is considered the first to be read chronologically in the series, though not required." The Mediterranean Caper, however, is identified chronologically as the first Pitt, published in 1973. The current adventure is the third Pitt to be coauthored with son Dirk; Black Wind (2006) was the first.

J.D. Robb, of course, is no stranger to bestseller lists, but her colleagues in this quartet have enjoyed time on the charts as well. Gaffney's Saving Graces was a PW hardcover and mass market bestseller, and Blayney and Langan have contributed, with Robb, to two other bestselling mass market anthologies: last year's Suite 606, and Dead of Night, in 2007.
According to boxofficemojo.com, "The Blind Side juggernaut pressed on, giving up 25% for a $15.1 million gross in its fourth weekend [Dec. 11-13]. In the process, the football-themed drama hit $149.8 million in just 24 days, a remarkable feat for a sports movie and for a picture that's not a special effects extravaganza or sequel." And it gets better: in a mere 17 days, the film became the highest-grossing sports drama on record.
